Student Work

Batik Portraits: In this project, second graders used black glue to create line art portraits that they then colored in with crayons. This project focused on students' control and usage of materials and knowledge of lines in drawing and art making.

Reverse Acetate Portraits: In this project, sixth-grade students explored lines, painted textures, and colors to create layered portraits. They started with paint experiments with tempera, traced with a sharpie, and used acrylic paint to fill in negative spaces on their portraits.

Matisse Fishbowls: With second-grade students, I had them explore texture, cutting and gluing skills, as well as color theory in this Matisse-inspired project. The background focused on cool versus warm colors, and had students use their knowledge of art principles to create these artworks.

Mindfulness Calming Jars In this activity, 60 students ages 5-10 engaged in a mindfulness breathing activity paired with creative art making time to create their own grounding jars. We discussed belly breathing and grounding techniques, and then created jars with glue, glitter, a small plastic sea creature, and stickers, to use as a grounding objects for students.
